This little gallery presents the images from Betty's 1940 sketchbook.

Invited to New York City to draw the ballet positions at the studio rehearsals for the coming performance of Sleepin Beauty at Carnegie Hall, a select group of young artists worked to illustrate the steps, postures, and positions in a way that emphasized what photography could not. An artist can exaggerate critical elements such as weight and motion.

The idea was to use art to illustrate the art of dance. 

Here is a sample from her 200 pages of gesture drawings, studies and sketches.
